A celebration of the written and spoken word, featuring some of the best poets from across Canada and beyond.

The excitement is coming to Commercial Drive in April 2011.

V.i.P. will re-imagine the shape and place of poetry and the performing arts in Canada today.

Individual Slam Championship

The very best poetry slammers from all across Canada will come to compete in the inaugural Canadian Individual Slam Championships. After two nights of preliminary bouts, the highest-scoring poets will advance to the finals where, for the first time ever, one poet will be crowned as Canada's first-ever individual slam champion.

Featured Performers

V.i.P. is your chance to see some of the very best poets from across the country including Toronto Dub Poet and Juno winner Lillian Allen, bill bissett and Susan Musgrave, Ivan E. Coyote, just to name a few, and also the very best poetry slammers, many of whom will have had to win local slams just to represent their community.

Events for Everyone

The festival will be filled a multitude of styles and voices, including a video poem night curated by Heather Haley, Van Slam Team Finals, Mashed Poetics featuring classic rock mixed with spoken word, a Poetry Is Dead magazine launch, storytelling shows, master classes, workshops and much more.
