I was fortunate enough to catch the very first show in this tour, held in Atlanta mid-September. Wow — what is there left to say, except the you really need to see this, hear this.

If you’ve ever read the liner review of this show regarding “truth guided lasers to the heart”, then know that this is NOT a misprint, NOT an exaggeration.

Go. Go and be thrown under the waves. Go and be born again a free man or free woman of good conscience and merit, and you’ll have a hell of a wonderful time in the process, this much I can promise.

Solomon Sparrow ended their Electric Whale Revival with two heart-wrenching, gut-busting, wow!-wrangling shows. I was at the late show on the double bill, which was also the final show of the entire tour, and I’ve never heard the crowd at the Cottage Bistro so loud. Mike McGee improvised a version of ‘Like’ as though he was raving drunk, which had R.C. Weslowski nearly falling off his chair. All in all, many new poetry fans were made, and old poets were inspired. After it was over, Solomon Sparrow signed their printer, and a football, and auctioned them off for gas money. I felt very lucky for the chance to witness so much talent on one stage.

Here’s a description from their their MySpace page:

Solomon Sparrow’s Electric Whale Revival is a show unlike any other, unless other shows include Anis Mojgani, Buddy Wakefield, Dan Leaman, Derrick Brown, and Mike McGee, all in one night. This is extravaganza. This is spoken word. This is five love lazers aimed at your chest.

What happens at the revival?

Depends on what you need from deep in the heart of the whale.

Maybe a shoe. Maybe a license plate attached to the bumper of an Oldsmobile. Maybe some whale sized love.

The poetry titles won in contest by these boys are immense, but the feelings you’ll win after being revived are unmeasurable.

Solomon Sparrow is proud to bring you the best Prestidigitators he has to offer. Each one of these Revivalists has years of poetry roaring inside their throats, and it was his final wish to bring them to your town with their future music, earth splitting poems, gut twisting humor and magic potions of audience interaction.

So when the Revival visits your town, come with a bag large enough to take what they’re offering. What ails you? How long has it been since you laughed? What exactly is your dream size? The Revival is coming!

Come and experience Solomon Sparrow’s Electric Whale Revival! “Warn the townies!”
