Some of the speakers and workshop leaders that we have used in the past include:
Rita Albano – Executive Producer, CelticFest Vancouver
A resident of Vancouver since 1992, Rita owns and operates two companies: Albano & Associates, which specializes in fundraising and event management, and OneWorld Arts Productions, an event-management/production and tour-management company. Rita is the Executive Producer of CelticFest Vancouver since 2003.
Since 1990, Albano has managed numerous major fundraising campaigns for the non-profit sector, raising millions of dollars, both locally and internationally, in the arts and cultural sector as well as for health and political groups.
Past projects include: World of Children’s Choirs 2001, Arts Club Theatre, Dr. Peter Centre, Vancouver Museum, BRAVO! Vancouver, Ballet BC, Alaska Highway Rendez-Vous ’92, World Symposium on Choral Music, JEEP Ski Nationals, Portsmouth Cathedral in the United Kingdom and the New Zealand National Party Election Campaign.
As well, her companies provide consultation to corporations on their sponsorship properties.
Albano was with the XV Olympic Winter Games in Calgary, working on community relations, national promotions and special events. She developed and managed the North American Public Awareness Program and later was responsible for the production of on-site medal recognition and cauldron lighting ceremonies” during the Games. As well, she was the protocol officer for the Government of Alberta at the Alberta Pavilion at Expo ’86.
In 2004, she negotiated and executed two successful cross-Canada tours for the 14-piece Cuban music group, Valentin y los del Caribe.
Albano speaks three languages and enjoys world music and arts, travel, tennis, culinary arts and international/current events.
Terry Hunter – Artistic Producer, Heart of the City Festival
Born in Nelson B.C., Mr. Hunter is co-founder and Executive Director of Vancouver Moving Theatre (1983) with whom he has toured Canada, USA, Europe, Asia and Australia. A Jessie Award recipient, Terry was the Producer of the groundbreaking In the Heart of a City: The DTES Community Play (2003) and We’re All In This Together: The Shadows Project – Addiction and Recovery (2007). Terry is also the Artistic Producer of the Downtown Eastside Heart of the City Festival. He also recently served as a cultural development consultant on the new Leigh Square Community Arts Village (Port Coquitlam). Terry is married to Savannah Walling and has a son, Montana Blu Hunter.
Angela Brown – Actress, Director, Producer
Angela worked for the City of Vancouver as co-creator and performer of schools shows based on environmental themes - A to Z of H20 and Rethink. She also worked for Theatre Royal, Barkerville Historical Park, as performer, choreographer, director and writer and for Fort Steele Historical Park as actor/director and writer for the Street Theatre program. Angela formed a children’s Theatre Company Bearfoot Dance Theatre in Toronto, Canada with Heather Cornell (Artistic Director of Manhatten Tap).
In Montreal, she was actor/choreographer for a company Once Upon a Time Theatre.
Angela has been teaching Theatre, Storytelling, Clown and Dance for years. She has taught Dance at University of British Columbia to the BFA acting students, and Voice and Movement for acting students at East Kootenay Community College, Cranbrook, B.C. She taught Acting at Richmond Gateway Theatre, B.C. (children/ adults) and Acting at the Jewish Community Centre (JCC) in Vancouver.
In England she studied directing at the British Theatre Association, taught Movement and Acting at the Actor’s Factory in London. She teaches Baroque and Renaissance Dance and Theatre and has taught at Langara College and for three summers at the Okanagan Summer School of the Arts, Penticton B.C where she also taught Acting and clown (all levels). She is presently teaching Baroque Dance through the GVHPS in Vancouver and teaches Acting at Vancouver Youth Theatre.
She received a BFA in Visual Arts/Theatre from Concordia University, Montreal, and a second BFA in Dance/Theatre from York University, Toronto.
