Preliminary Sketch for Van Slam t-shirts
« on: June 04, 2008, 03:13:58 PM »
This is the working idea for one of the Van Slam t-shirts.

"Van Slam / ruining it for everyone / since 1996" would be on the front.
"but it was well worth it!" would be on the back.

They would be DIY silkscreened, which is why I've kept the design simple. RadaR might be able to make a few trial-run samples next week.

The idea is that you bring in a t-shirt, or some blank piece of fabric (a bag, or sweatshirt, or whatever), give us $10 and we'll silkscreen this.

All funds would go to VPH and Van Slam to help bring poets to our stages, and send our poets abroad.

Another catchphrase with the same basic font, and format could include:

"Van Slam / poetry that doesn't suck / unless you say it does"

New design. I might like this one the best. It's a collab between Clint "Father Goose" Wilson and RC Weslowski...

Chris

That second one looks good and it's funny too.  Do you have different FONT options for these?  I wouldn't mind seeing a different look if possible.  I know these are preliminaries.

Of course it's funny, you came up with it.

These t-shirts designs are now beyond the preliminary phase. That doesn't mean that we can't try different fonts. We certainly can. But since no one has stood up and waving their hands and begging me not to proceed, I have been. I chose this font because it has thick, simple lines, which should make the silkscreening process easier (with thin lines, the colour bleeds more easily), and it looks friendly and fun.

In the future, I'd like to have a graphic that we can work in, but this is a good start.

I'm going to try silkscreening a few of these onto t-shirts tonight. If we don't like the way they look, we'll change them. You can see my initial trials at the Van Slam on next Monday (featuring the always funny Sara Bynoe).

I like your initiative.   Let me know if you need extra t-shirts to silk screen on to.  I can bring them to the slam on Monday if you like.

Cool. Yes, bring extra shirts on Monday. That goes for any board members who want a t-shirt (or other cloth object) with "Van Slam / ruining it for everyone / since 1996 / but it was well worth it". I'll be creating screens for the other logos next week.

I did a the silkscreen printing workshop at Blim last night, and made a trial run. They turned out great. I still want to make a few minor changes, but it was very exciting to see the idea become reality.

Because of the tweaks needed (and because I need to prepare for my feature next week), I won't have the sample t-shirts finished until the July 7th slam.
