I would also think Relevant and Anna Freeman are non competitors as they live in Toronto and London respectively.

I've confirmed with Justin that he is NOT going out for the Van Slam team. Here are your updated IF the playoffs started today standings:

1. Duncan Shields 59
2. Antonette 37
3. RC Weslowski 32
4. Julie Peters 32
5. The Svelte Ms. Spelt 22
6. Fernando Raguero 20
7. Fatou Wourie 16
8. Johnny MacRae 16
9. Sasha Langford 16
10. Steve Miller 10
11. Bolko 9
12. Chris Masson 9
13. Daniel Mark Patterson 6
14. Sean 5

The next 12 poets automatically qualify to compete in the Last Chance Slam, of which the top two finishers qualify for the playoffs.

15. Brit 4
16. Rob Hoover 4
17. Tristan DePlume 1
18. Kimothy 1
19. Marcella 1
20. CJ Leon 1

The only I'm still not completely sure about is Bolko. I know that Sean has spoken with him, but I think we still need to confirm. If anyone has contact info for him, that would be really helpful.

UPDATE #2: Rob Hoover, a former member of the Montreal Poetry Slam Team, has announced his intention to compete for the Van Slam team!

I was just curous if the folks on the cusp have been contacted to see if they want to come out and try for the playoffs..ie Kimothy or CJ and so on.  It would be good to see them in the mix.

I don't have the official scores for last night, but I'm 99% sure that the top 5 were: 1. Lucia Misch, 2. Clint "Father Goose" Wilson, 3. Julie Peters, 4. Tristan DePlume, 5. The Svelte Ms. Spelt. Bolko was there as well, and he declared that he would not be going out for the Van Slam team. That means that the 14 poets who will go directly into semi-finals are:

1. Duncan Shields 59
2. Antonette 37
3. Julie Peters 36
4. RC Weslowski 32
5. The Svelte Ms. Spelt 22
6. Fernando Raguero 20
7. Fatou Wourie 16
8. Johnny MacRae 16
9. Sasha Langford 16
10. Lucia Misch 16
11. Steve Miller 10
12. Clint "Father Goose" Wilson 9
13. Chris Masson 9
14. Daniel Mark Patterson 6

These poets will be asked to NOT compete at the Last Chance Slam on March 15th. Any poets with points, but who did not make this list, will get priority to compete in the Last Chance Slam, the top two finishers of which will qualify for the playoffs. Clear as mud?

Are poets with no prior attendance throughout the season allowed to slam in the Last Chance Slam?

Can someone who knows all the final details as to who can and can't slam on Monday do a final Facebook blast on the Van Slam Page to help minimize the confusion on Monday?

I would but I don't know who can and can't slam...other than those who have already qualified.

I think that the only way for poets with no prior attendance to be able to slam is if we run out of qualifying poets for some reason.  I'm not sure if all of the poets who qualified have been notified.  With me in San Diego and Sean in Columbus, who should this duty fall to?

My understanding is that Brit, Rob Hoover, Tristan DePlume, Kimothy, Marcella and CJ Leon have an automatic berth in the Wild Card Slam, if they want it. The other slots are open to whoever shows up on Monday. Should be an exciting show!

Sean also has points, and an automatic slot in the Last Chance / Wild Card poetry slam next Monday.

Alright - so who is taking on contacting Brit, Rob Hoover, Tristan DePlume, Kimothy, Marcella and CJ Leon to let them know they have qualified for the Wild Card slam? I'm assuming Sean already knows that he's qualified... Smiley

I emailed Kimothy, CJ and Rob a few weeks ago and only heard back from Kimothy.  He's actually committed to touring with a transgender variety show for most of the summer so cannot commit to any slam stuff.

I don't know about Rob and CJ.  I never heard back.  As far as I know Tristan will be there.  But I don't know very much.

Julie has texted me that she will not be able to make the team commitments. I also may be withdrawing my name but I would like to talk to RC about something before that.

Wowps was phenomenal!!! Julie was great and was in one of the toughest if not the toughest bouts I've ever seen on the 2nd night.

I got a chance to coach Laura Yes Yes and she ended up placing 4th. I was very proud of her as well given it was her first time on a finals stage.

Next year I would like to see if we can bring a larger Canadian contingent to the festival (pending financial resources of course) but that is for a different thread and for a different time.

Previously I had spoken to/emailed Kimothy, Rob Hoover, Brit and Tristan. We shall see who shows up tonight. I believe Marcella already knows but I will re-message her today.

Sean-
Laura Yes Yes deserves praise for taking 4th to be sure.
But your sentence reads to me as if you are somehow taking credit for her victory due to your "coaching".
it may not be the way you meant it-but it's the way it reads and it's gauche dude.
It also suggests to me that the politics about who gets to coach the van slam team have begun in earnest.
and that you have begun to make your case that it should be you.
if you'd like to have a thread where we can discuss the viable shortlist of candidates for that position I'm totally in-and will advance my sizeable curriculum vitae in that regard.
but as for WOWPS-I applaud the women, regardless of how their final rank was ordered or who "coached" them for standing in their Truth and making their voices heard.
their success is their own.

Ok, back to the issue at hand: who is IN team playoffs, who is NOT.

If Julie drops out, then Sean is IN. If Julie and Sean drop out, Rob Hoover is IN. (His 4 points ranks higher than Brit's, according to their scores on those respective poetry slams.)

From the last I heard, Rob is interested in competing in team playoffs. I'm not sure if he's coming tonight or not, but it would be very important to know whether or not Sean is IN before the Last Chance Slam starts, so that we know whether or not Rob should compete.

That's my take, as the completely unofficial standings and scores analyst.
