Geist's Short Long-Distance Writing Contest

Dear Writers,

Geist invites you to submit your writing to the Short Long-Distance Writing Contest. Send us a short story that takes place in at least two time zones within Canada (500 words max, fiction or non-fiction). First prize: $250, second prize: $150, and third prize: $100; all honourable mentions receive swell Geist gifts. The winning entries will be published in Geist Magazine and at geist.com, honourable mentions will be published at geist.com, and selected stories at thetyee.ca.

Entry Fee: $20 CAD for the first entry (includes one-year subscription or subscription extension), $5 CAD for each additional entry. If you are already a Geist subscriber, you can donate your complimentary subscription to a Canadian public library or give it as a gift to a friend. Details below. Anyone—no matter where you live!—is eligible to enter.

Entry deadline: midnight June 1, 2008 (Pacific Daylight Time)

Entries can be submitted online here. Once you click submit, you will be directed to our secure server in order to pay your entrance fee. You can also submit via snail mail at #200 - 341 Water Street, Vancouver, B.C., V6B 1B8 (go here for more information about that).

All files must be double spaced, in at least 11-point type with one-inch margins. The file should include your name as follows: last name-first name-story title. For example: Doe-Jane-StoryName.doc. We accept any of the following file formats: doc, rtf, pdf, or odf.
