Every once in a while someone not involved with the poetry slam scene on a regular basis comes out and gives it a flogging. It's happening in Toronto right now.

Very thought-provoking.
Jack McCarthy's essays on this subject are also well-worth reading.

He's put together the most thorough and compelling argument for performance poetry and poetry slams that I've ever read.
