On
Tuesday May 19th, you will
NOT want to miss our featured guest and storyteller supreme,
BILL McNAMARA, co-host of Thundering Word (Vancouver’s Finest Open Mic), Vancouver Story Slam Champion (2005-2006), supporter of literacy and local literary events, keener of words, and primo spoken word artiste!
May 19th is also
Get Caught Reading Day '09 and marks the birthday of the late
Malcolm X, who would not have become one of the most charismatic civil rights leaders in the world without having been imprisoned for burglary. His incarceration, along with his ability to elude the prison guards long after “lights out” in order to study the prison’s dictionary -- word by word and page by page -- set him free with the power of literacy, the mastery of his vocabulary, and the free-thinking eloquence of his oratory.
BILL McNAMARA will prove that you don’t have to be behind bars to find uninhibited freedom in the written and spoken word! The call goes out to emerging and established writers of all genres: Come out of literary confinement, accept
Spoken INK’s invitation, and take up the challenge to celebrate literacy and
Get Caught Reading your poems, stories, essays, and songs!
The
Spoken INK open mic cafe happens every third Tuesday (September to June) and sign-up time is 7:30 PM at the James Street Café, 3819 Canada Way, just one short block east of Boundary Road on Canada Way at Smith (NE corner) in Burnaby. Come for a coffee & dessert -- stay for a listen!
