As a totally unbiased observer, I can report that Van Slam was easily the best team in our first bout. The judges were on crack. Ok, the feedback on the mic didn't help either.
No, seriously, everyone represented our scene well. The judges simply weren't feeling it. Zach did a killer version of "Inspiration" in the first round. RadaR and I did "The Golden Age" our duo about self-pleasure in the second round, and it was the first time that we hit every line and every cue perfectly. I saw Scott Woods on the side of audience splitting his side. I was really happy with how it went over. In the third round, RadaR got the highest score for Vancouver in the bout with her version of "Detroit". And in the final round, Scruffmouth had them laughing hard with "Organic Rhubarb."
As more proof that we put our best foot forward, I submit that the MC, Nick Fox, an NPS vet and all-around dude, looked over at us after the second round with eyebrows raised and acknowledged that the scores were not representing the quality of work that we brought to the stage. As a team, though, we all knew that we threw down.
I'll write more as soon as I have time. But I will mention that the Nerd Slam this afternoon was amazing, and the Vancouver's own Kyle Mallinson had them rolling in the aisles with his response poem to him Mom. It was most excellent.
